What is a Blog Feed?
Blog Feeds enable you to see when a web site has published new content or information. They are also known as "news feeds".
With Blog Feeds, you can get headlines, read stories (or summaries) and access other content (for example sound and video) without having to visit the web site to see what's new as the content is delivered to you when it's published.
RSS is a format (protocol) for Blog Feeds. It is most commonly translated to mean "Really Simple Syndication". The format in which the data (content) is stored is a format that can be shared easily between all computers and devices and this enables web sites like Mexperience to make the content (blog articles) available to other web sites as well as millions of individuals, whether its on a computer at home or at the office, or a portable device.
How Do I Use Feeds?
You will need a "Feed Reader".
Internet Browsers, for example Internet Explorer and FireFox, have Feed Readers built-in.
Other Feed Readers (sometimes called "Feed Aggregators") include programs like Outlook and Thunderbird (email programs) which can also deliver blog stories to you in the same format that they deliver email messages.
There are also a number of other programs available which are dedicated to reading Blog (News) Feeds which you can install onto your computer or portable device and use to get Blog Feeds that way. The stand-alone programs are better known as "Feed Aggregators", as they can bring together feeds from lots of different web sites. You can find a list of Feed Aggregators here on the relevant Wikipedia entry.
Getting Content via Blog News Feeds
Once you have chosen a Feed Reader (or aggregator) you simply 'subscribe' to the feeds you are interested in. Most feeds (including Mexperience feeds) are free to subscribe to.
If you are using a browser to read Blog Feeds, you'll notice that the "Feed" Icon, (see graphic at the top of this page) will change from gray to orange in the browser. When the icon/button is illuminated in the browser, it means that the page you are browsing offers Blog or News Feeds. Click on the button to see the feeds.
If you are using a program, simply add the feeds address (shown when you click on the orange icon) to your program to subscribe.
Once you have subscribed to a feed, anytime new information is published on that 'channel', your Feed Reader (or Aggregator) will fetch the information and deliver it to you.
Subscribing to feeds on Mexperience is free of charge; there are no fees or charges to pay.
