Spring Discounts at Hotels in Mexico

The market report we receive each month documenting the hotels offering discounted rates and special deals across Mexico demonstrates that it continues to be a strong buyer’s market for travelers in most of Mexico’s towns, cities and popular resorts.

If you’re planning a trip to Mexico this spring, you’ll enjoy some of the best rates available for some time, as travel suppliers, including hoteliers, discount rates and offer special incentives to entice people to take a break or vacation in Mexico.

The types of deals on offer include direct discounts on the nightly rate, second or third nights free (equivalent to a 50% or 33% discount, respectively) as well as other incentives like free meals and vouchers which may be redeemed for food, drink and other services at the property.  Check individual hotel rates to see what is on offer at the destinations you’re interested in visiting.

In addition to the exceptional deals being offered to the market by hotels, Mexico’s weakening peso is also adding a fillip to foreign traveler’s budgets.  Although flights and most hotel rates are denominated in US dollars (even when they are quoted in pesos), goods and services purchased locally – for example, restaurants, taxi fares, art, crafts, theatre tickets, souvenirs, et al – will be up to forty per cent less expensive in dollar terms.

The euro has fallen from its recent highs against the US dollar, but in peso terms the euro has never been as strong as is it today.  Eight months ago, the euro bought some $13 pesos; today, each unit of Europe’s single currency fetches over $19 pesos at retail exchange houses.

For travelers in Mexico earning in British pounds, sterling’s fall against the dollar has been offset by the Mexican currency’s parallel fall against the Greenback and sterling continues to trade in the region of $20 pesos to the pound; about the same amount it fetched when sterling soared to over US$2.

If you’re planning to include a visit to Mexico City in your itinerary, try to schedule your visit over a weekend to get the best rate at your hotel.   The better hotels in the capital enjoy a continual flow of business travelers during the week, so it’s hard to find discount rates between Monday and Thursday nights.  However, as business travelers go home (or head out to the provinces) at weekends, you may find significant savings on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights.
