- Qualify under the terms of the program; which include
- Being situated physically in Mexico and holding an expired visitor permit; and
- Be prepared to pay the government fees for the application.
- You must attend an immigration office in Mexico in person to ask if your request for a RNE application will be accepted.
If the local immigration office agrees to accept your application via the RNE program, they will ask you to go online and complete some special forms and write a letter of request (in Spanish). They’ll email you a document with detailed guidance about what to do at the immigration office in Mexico when you arrive to file for residency using RNE at your intended location. Depending on the location, you will either attend the office in person to ask for an appointment and return on that date to file, or you’ll need to line up and wait for a service token to be attended that day. When your turn is called, you hand over the docket of papers our associate prepared and wait for the immigration official to review and process the application. When it’s approved, your photograph and fingerprints will be taken digitally. The four-year residency card offered as part of the RNE program might be issued that same day; otherwise, you will be given a file number and be invited to return another day to pick-up your residency card. |
