Mexperience Mexico Newsletter — March 2022
March highlights in Mexico
March heralds the beginning of springtime in Mexico, although the weather this time of year continues to be changeable with wind storms that may appear suddenly, too. Air temperatures are beginning to climb again —even in the typically cooler regions of the north-central and western highlands— and clock-time is about to be sprung forward by one hour, setting the scene for lighter evenings. The ‘snowbirds’ (part-time residents overwintering in Mexico) are entering their final stretch before they make preparations to return to their home countries for late spring and summer.
Benito Juárez and clocks
March is host to another long weekend holiday, commemorating the birth of Benito Juárez—the country’s first president and one of the most revered of Mexico’s political leaders. The March 21st holiday was moved to the third Monday in March which this year happens to coincide precisely with the date of the commemoration.
The spring clock change is on the horizon; Baja California and locations along the Mexico-US border will move their clocks forward by one hour on Sunday March 13th; most of Mexico moves its clocks forward again on the first Sunday in April. The states of Sonora and Quintana Roo very sensibly leave their clocks alone.
