When you’re planning to live in Mexico—whether full time, or part time—or if you’re in the throes of some retirement planning—you need to undertake a large amount of research about the places that may interest you before you can draw up a short list of possible candidates.
To help you accomplish this task more easily, connect to the section on Mexperience entitled Living Places, that is integrated into our Living & Lifestyle guides. Here, you’ll find links to detailed guides of places in Mexico, with information tailored specifically to show you how you can live, work or retire at each one.
Although these guides complement our extensive travel guides to places across Mexico, they are distinct and provide additional information that is specifically related to living in Mexico.
When these new Living Places guides are used together with the travel guides, our Mexico Essentials guide, and the guides to living, working, retirement and real estate, you have gathered together one of the most comprehensive information resources available to you as you research and map-out your Mexico plans.

There is an opportunity for me to buy a beautiful home in Colima, Colima. It was built 5 years ago for $250,000 dollars and could be used for a commercial venture. The owners are leaving the area and are willing to sell at a huge discount. Would this be a good investment if I could buy it for over $50,000 less and hold it until the present down economy comes back? Colima is only a short distance from Costalegre and I am told better retirement for seniors due to better quality health care. Advice?
The key word is “research.” It’s easy to find a nice place and say “this is it.” But the best part of Mexico is meeting the people. Get out and around. An extended, private motor tour through the country can be a life-altering experience. The differences between, say, the Baja desert and the tropical rain forests will amaze you. If you have the resources, by all means see as much of Mexico as you can. You will be a better person for it. Guaranteed!
